Blue Sox Host Inaugural T-Ball Day

SYDNEY, 22 October – The Sydney Blue hosted their inaugural under-9 T-ball Gala Day and Fan Fest yesterday at Blacktown International Sportspark, drawing 23 teams and just over 1,700 people.

The day, which began at 9 a.m., saw all teams play at least five games, with some of the playoff teams playing a total of six games on the day. The top two teams, the Quakers Hill Sea Dogs and Winston Hills Warriors, both went 6-0 for the tournament and will return to Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday, November 10th to play the championship prior to the Blue Sox game against the Brisbane Bandits.

Throughout the day Blue Sox players and coaches were in attendance, signing autographs and taking pictures with players and fans alike.

“It was such a great sight to see so many of our future Blue Sox stars running around on the field that their heroes get to every week in the Australian Baseball League,” Blue Sox manager Jason Pospishil said. Seeing the players sign autographs and take part in photos with the kids was exciting and I know the players are extremely grateful to have such a fantastic and excited fan base.”

In total, 58 games were played over the course of the morning and afternoon, with 17 games decided by two runs or less.

“Seeing all the T-Ballers come out and play on our field was a great sight,” Blue Sox General Manager David Balfour said. “The turnout was fantastic and the crowd really responded to seeing our coaching staff and players come out to support them. I was very impressed by the talent of the youngsters and I was especially pleased to see how much fun the kids had.”

The event kicked off the Blue Sox “Baseball Week,” which continues Wednesday with the team’s Season Launch at Parliament House, Thursday with the Major League Baseball World Series viewing party and Friday with the Australia Series, a three-game series between the Blue Sox and Team Australia at Blacktown International Sportspark.

The Sydney Blue Sox begin their season from the 26th-28th of October against Team Australia at Blacktown International Sportspark. For ticket more information, make sure to visit www.sydneybluesox.com.au.
